Highway road block

We were driving home from Helen and David's on Friday night, on a major local road (speed limit 55 mph). Suddenly, the car ahead of us screeched to a halt; it was all we could do not to hit it.

In about two minutes there was an impressive line of cars. I was impatient (have I mentioned I'm not very good at waiting?), especially because we were going to make a pit stop for some ice cream.

Finally, we saw what was going on. A gigantic snapping turtle was in the middle of the road and motorists in both directions had stopped to try to herd the turtle off the road.

It really was a cool snapping turtle. I'm glad I live in a place where people stop for gigantic turtles... but next time, maybe do it a little more safely, okay?
